NLGRB takes Responsible Gaming awareness to Bugolobi Market

The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has continued its nation-wide drive to promote responsible gaming, this time engaging a number of market vendors, customers, and passers-by at Bugolobi Market.

From the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board- Jackline Kamakune, the Senior Communications Officer, Hope Susan, the Senior Responsible Gaming Officer, and Counselor Samuel Kimbowa from Butabika National Referral Hospital, delivered key messages on Responsible gaming practices while responding to questions from the public.

During the interaction, Counselor Kimbowa highlighted the importance of recognizing early warning signs of gambling addiction, especially within families and close relationships.

“Someone might wonder how to find out that their person is actually experiencing challenges with gaming addiction. A husband who used to leave money to take care of the home suddenly doesn’t. No development, no money on them all the time. These are some of the indicators that the vice is starting to take a toll,” Samuel Kimbowa, Butabika National Referral Hospital Senior Counselor.

He emphasized that the good news is that the Board has systems in place to help Ugandans facing such challenges. These include counselling services and nationwide Responsible Gaming campaigns aimed at ensuring that gaming companies operate fairly and do not exploit the youthful population.

The team also reminded parents and guardians about the growing risk of underage online betting. With the increased accessibility of online betting platforms, young people can easily engage in gaming without physically entering betting houses.

Parents were urged to remain vigilant and closely monitor their children’s digital activity to prevent early exposure and addiction.

The public was further reminded that only persons aged 25 and above are legally permitted to participate in gaming activities in Uganda, and even then, self-control and responsible participation are key.

The NLGRB’s outreach at Bugolobi Market is part of its broader commitment to educating communities and ensuring that gaming remains a regulated, safe, and beneficial activity for the country.
