The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) recently held a compliance stakeholder engagement with gaming operators at Mestil
In his opening remarks, the CEO thanked the gaming operators for attending the compliance engagement and announced that the Board’s headquarters will be moving to Luthuli House in Bugolobi. He stated that regional offices in Gulu, Mbale, and Jinja will open by the end of July.
During the engagement, Mr. Aloysius Mugasa Adyeri, Chairman of the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board, appreciated the gaming operator for responding to the stakeholder engagement request. In his remarks, the Board Chairman said the engagement was meant to reaffirm and deepen members’ understanding of compliance in the following key areas of adherence to the Lotteries and Gaming Act, Cap 334 and the regulations thereunder, Anti-Money Laundering, Licensing and Operational Requirements and the Integration with the National Central Electronic Monitoring System (NCEMS).
“Compliance is not a burden, and it is the baseline. It is the foundation upon which a credible and sustainable industry is built. When operators fully comply with the law, the Sector benefits: Public confidence is enhanced, government revenue increases, and vulnerable populations especially the youth are better protected” said Aloysious Mugasa Adyeri.
When the operators were given the opportunity to present their recommendations, one of the gaming operators, David Kyilonde, stated that Betting Companies had created an Association that they feel will assist the Board in carrying out its purpose. He also acknowledged his role as the Association’s General Secretary.
From the Board, Richard Muteesaasira Kavuma, Senior Manager Regulatory Compliance made a presentation on the expectations of the Board in relation to compliance, licensing and IT. He highlighted one of the compliance gaps being advertising.
“Compliance with the regulatory requirements will improve the operator’s performance and keep the regulator’s whip away.” Richard Muteesaasira Kavuma, Senior Manager Regulatory Compliance emphasized during his presentation.
In conclusion, such stakeholder engagements are not only to identify challenges but also to propose and agree on actionable solutions.
