Profile

Faridah Bahemuka Murungyi is a distinguished legal professional with over 16 years of multifaceted experience spanning private legal practice, corporate governance, and public sector. She currently serves as Legal Counsel in the Tax Policy Department at Uganda’s Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, where she plays a key role in tax policy formulation and development. Beyond her core responsibilities, she also serves on Uganda’s national negotiation committees for international tax treaties, investment treaties, and Air Services Agreements, where she contributes strategically to advancing and protecting the country’s interests on the global stage.

Faridah also serves as Uganda’s Focal Person to the OECD Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, where she advocates for adherence to international standards that combat tax evasion and illicit financial flows. Her leadership in these high-stakes engagements is especially critical to risk-prone sectors like gaming, where transparency and regulatory compliance are paramount. Her prior role as Deputy Company Secretary at Warid Telecom Uganda Ltd equipped her with extensive experience in corporate governance, board secretarial duties, and regulatory risk management, particularly in navigating complex commercial transactions.

Her legal expertise is complemented by a Master’s degree in International Tax from the University of Melbourne, Australia and advanced training in key areas such as project finance, international business transactions, fiscal law and governance, regional economic integration, extractive industries, management and leadership, and anti-corruption strategies. She is also well-versed in alternative dispute resolution and investment law, which positions her as a versatile legal strategist with a deep understanding of both domestic frameworks and global policy dynamics.

Faridah serves on the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) with a distinguished background in legal, fiscal, and policy leadership across diverse sectors. Her multidisciplinary expertise and strategic insight continue to strengthen the Board’s efforts in advancing Uganda’s gaming oversight in line with international best practices. With deep knowledge of fiscal governance and treaty frameworks, she plays a key role in promoting compliance, transparency, and institutional integrity, contributing to a fair, accountable, and investment-ready gaming environment.
