The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has intensified its efforts to promote responsible gaming by engaging the Online Media Publishers Association (OMPA) in a strategic meeting focused on public awareness, digital outreach, and consumer protection. The engagement brought together representatives from both institutions to explore how digital media can be leveraged to deliver accurate, timely, and responsible information about gaming across Uganda.

During the discussions, the Board noted that gaming is rapidly evolving beyond traditional land-based establishments to include online and digital platforms, making continuous public education more important than ever. The meeting, therefore, focused on building a strategic partnership that will promote responsible gaming practices, encourage positive mindset change, strengthen awareness of the risks of irresponsible gaming, and support informed decision-making among participants.
Speaking during the engagement, Adrine Otunga, the Manager Legal at NLGRB, underscored the importance of collaboration between regulators and media stakeholders in shaping a more responsible gaming environment. “We are strengthening our partnership with OMPA to not only drive positive mindset change but also to collaboratively shape and enhance policies that support responsible gaming across all platforms,” she said. Her remarks reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to working with media organisations to amplify responsible gaming messages and respond to emerging industry trends.
OMPA President Giles welcomed the collaboration and reaffirmed the Association’s readiness to support the Board’s responsible gaming agenda through innovative content creation and public engagement initiatives. “We will prepare proposals in line with the Board’s mandate and ensure the public receives accurate and relevant information,” he said. Through partnerships such as this, NLGRB continues to strengthen public education efforts, encourage responsible participation in gaming activities, and expand access to reliable information for communities across Uganda.
Engaging the media is essential because it remains one of the most effective channels for reaching diverse audiences quickly, shaping public understanding, and promoting informed behaviour. By collaborating with credible media partners, NLGRB is better positioned to raise awareness about the opportunities and risks associated with gaming, counter misinformation, and ensure that responsible gaming messages reach individuals, families, and communities in a timely and impactful manner.
