Youths of Rotaract Club of Makindye Sensitized on Gaming and its Adverse Effects

The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) conducted a sensitization engagement on gaming and its adverse effects at the National Theatre on Tuesday, October 13, 2025.

The session targeted members of the Rotaract Club of Makindye, emphasizing awareness among young adults about the risks associated with irresponsible gaming.

The interactive dialogue featured Jackline Kamakune, Senior Communications Officer at NLGRB, and Ivan Musenero, a mental health expert from Butabika National Referral Hospital.

Both speakers stressed the importance of understanding the thin line between entertainment and addiction in gaming.

Musenero cautioned the participants about the accessibility of gaming platforms through the internet, noting that “everyone is a potential gambler, and with internet access, engaging in online gaming has become very easy.” He urged people to exercise self-control and make informed decisions when engaging in such activities.

Kamakune, on her part, highlighted the Board’s commitment to protecting minors from underage gaming and ensuring responsible gaming practices among those of legal age. She reminded the audience that gaming in Uganda is strictly regulated and only permitted for persons aged 25 and above.

“Even before you think of gaming, save or invest some money because there is no sure win in gaming. Play, but stop when it’s no longer fun,” she advised.

Young minds are more susceptible to gaming addiction, hence the need for NLGRB to continue to implement outreach programs across the country to promote awareness about responsible gaming, protect vulnerable groups, and encourage lawful participation in regulated gaming activities.
